Defining Online Ad Terms
Online advertising terms can be confusing to customers. Here’s a brief review of a few of the terms associated with buying ads online. CPM stands for cost per 1,000 impressions and the M is for the Latin mille for thousand. CPM means you’ll pay a rate based on thousands of people who see your ad. CPC stands for cost per click. If you are paying for clicks, you’ll be charged each time someone clicks on your ad. CPA stands for cost per action, sometimes referred to as cost per acquisition. This is the cost an advertiser pays when an ad is converted into the desired action, such as a sale.
Which of these to use depends on the product and the company’s goal for that particular ad. When making decisions for your customers, be sure to ask the right questions. If their goal is to create brand awareness, CPM might fit. If the goal is to build followers or likes, CPC would probably be the best method. An e-newsletter drive might be best accomplished using CPA.
Click through rate is a ratio showing how often people who see your ad end up clicking it. CTR is the usual method of calculating the effectiveness of an ad. CTR is figured by the number of clicks that your ad receives divided by the number of times your ad is shown, or impressions. If your ad receives eight clicks and 1000 impressions, then your CTR is 0.8%.
Media Link Software™ Update
Duplicate Orders: Our users are now able to duplicate publications. This makes creating orders similar to each other even easier!
Added Customization: Our system now has the ability to hide net costs in Publication Order Print view. We know many agencies wanted to streamline the order and didn’t need for the customer to see the net cost so we added that as an option.
Added Online Tracking: We’ve made vast improvements to the online segment of our system. We have added a column to track unique users in your demographic. This provides a more accurate reading of who you’re reaching in your demographic. The system can now track clicks per month and calculate a click through rate.
New Module Coming Soon: Our Outdoor Management System is making tremendous progress and we’re anticipating a 1st Quarter 2014 completion on this new module. When this new system goes live, subscribers will have a new tool for tracking outdoor sales through every step of their purchase process at all of your outdoor locations. This expanded service will help you track all of your outdoor property, the vendors you lease outdoor space from and their royalty payments, as well as your account executives, service installers, graphic designers and your customer.
